Sea-Tac travelers warned to be wary of luggage thefts

According to Kiro 7 Eyewitness News, Port of Seattle law enforcement has seen an uptick in the number of baggage thefts occurring at Seattle-Tacoma airport in the last few weeks.

With spring break travelers going through the airport in large numbers, it is easy for thieves to blend in with large groups after stealing luggage. Anyone can grab a suitcase off the rolling baggage claim and walk away as if it was theirs.

In order to protect yourself from having your luggage stolen, be sure to keep an eye on it at all times. Do not leave baggage unattended while you visit the restroom or wait for a ride. In the event that you must check baggage, consider purchasing a Transportation Security Administration-approved lock. This way you can open your luggage and so can the security agents, but potential thieves will be deterred.

If you can, travel with carry-ons and do not check any bags. This way you will not risk your things being stolen at baggage claim. Plus, it's easier to make your way to Thrifty airport parking when you can go from the plane straight to the car rental lot.
