United Airlines unveils purple plane for charity

Date: April 15, 2015 | Category:

According to the Chicago Biz Journal, United Airlines will unveil a new plane on Thurs, April 16. The aircraft is painted purple in support of March of Dimes.

The new aircraft, a Boeing 737-900 ER, is set to take its first flight at 3:30 p.m. from O'Hare International Airport. United has been raising money for March of Dimes and will be announcing that it has raised $780,000 from passengers and employees in support of the charity.

March of Dimes works to assist mothers in having healthy babies. It encourages people to donate money, even if it's just change, to help focus on preventing birth defects and infant mortality. It has made strides towards treatments for respiratory issues in newborns, mapping the human genome and researching many other issues that infants and pregnant mothers face.

United has been a national sponsor for the annual March for Babies Walk and thousands of its employees and customers took to the roads in support of March of Dimes. MileagePlus users can even donate their miles to the organization, or register to join the United team that takes part in the walk every year.

If you are heading to O'Hare on Thursday, keep your eyes peeled in the afternoon while heading to Thrifty parking to pick up a rental car. You might spot the brand new purple plane soaring overhead.
